the SunHerald's wonderfully talented photographer, Jamie Bates, nabbed this one. it was during an incrdibly awkward moment. I was told I was only going to be able to ask one question. So, I asked, "Mr. Bush, I know you are a well traveled man. Did this compare to anything else you've seen?" To which he replied, and I sum, "Yes, Banda Aceh. In many ways this was worse though. I mean there, the human loss was worse, but they only lost fishing shacks on the beach. Here, you've lost historical and million dollar homes." While I understood what he meant, I couldn't help turning up my liberal-skeptical response to that. That's probably why I'm making that face.

How much time and money is the government spending to send the President to Biloxi again? Couldn't that money be spent in better ways, I realize he's important, but what does he really do there? Don't get me wrong, I'm a Bush supporter, but he doesn't make the total decision on things....
Well, I think you totally misunderstood the elder Bush.
If you will carefully examine how far apart his hands are(like I did)
he is clearly demonstrating how much Viagra has done for him!
i am very surprised at your president's answer as materialistic thinngs can be replaced million dollar mantions can be rebuilt what those people in banda acheh lived though was much much worse could you explain what he ment by that
he's the one that maybe able to get through the bureaucrqtic crap fasrer so you can get money faster plus he and Bill clinton started a foundation and probably want to know where their raised money should go
oh lord; yes, the million dollar homes with two occupants, so much more devastating than the fishing shacks with 4 generations...a thousand times over.
good grief, how did you control yourself?
Considering Barb made the same kind of silly comment about the Astrodome residents, I'm not too surprised at his comment.
I'm not sure I could have held my tongue!
Historical AND million dollar homes! The shock of it all! Especially those million dollar homes.
Of course I'm saddened that anyone lost their home, whatever their economic status. But the comment shows where Bush's sympathies really lie, in my opinion. Maybe it just came out awful, but there is, after all, the bumper sticker that rings more than a little true:
Billionaires for Bush--No Billionaire left Behind.
Hmmm...
