So Rita is headed in our general direction. The good news is that the path isn't projected over Mississippi and that the Gulf is a little cooler than it was for Katrina and therefore less gasoline will be thrown on that fire.
However, most Hurricanes in the Gulf take a sharp turn east just before making landfall.
Regardless, Mike and I may be faced with an interesting choice: Do we stay again?
Mike has already declared his intentions to do so no matter what. (Although he may correct on that one later.)
I have plane tickets for a friend's wedding in Vermont this weekend. My flight leaves in the wee hours of Friday morning. Rita is supposed to make landfall either late Friday or early Saturday. I don't know if I could leave if another one hits here directly.

a weekend away would probably do you good; it hopefully won't go that far east...but they're talking about it being another cat.4...haven't heard anything about cooler waters

I was just wondering how long do you guys think you'll continue updating this blog? It seems like most media are drastically reducing the Katrina coverage now that some time has passed. It's what you normally see on the news..two weeks after a tradegy, you no longer hear anything.

Well, if you get evacuation orders, I'd listen to them. And maybe you can get away earlier to go to the wedding - just in case your flight gets canceled. Just my opinion. I have an aunt who lives in Lake Charles and they were packing up just in case. Anyway, I found your blog after posting to mine. Looks very interesting!

It's amazing when you go back and read your first post before Katrina...to where you are now...when the posts stop, you will be greatly missed. with the way the media is covering everywhere but Biloxi, you have been my eyes to my brother and sister in law. thanks so much!

I have been reading your posts and viewing your pictures for weeks, and they always make me cry. I'm safe and sound on the Jersey Shore, and I feel much more connected with the events of the past few weeks whenever I visit your blog. I am also a journalist of sorts (I edit a trade magazine for people who design and manage commercial buildings), and I have so much respect for the work you've done.

Just thought I'd contribute my two cents...

P.S.-Laforet's photos are incredible.

I appreciate your blog. I followed Katrina from east of Florida and now Rita. I've got family out on the Gulf - the water - now and haven't heard from them. I can only assume all is well until I hear otherwise.

Enjoy Vermont, Josh.

Mike, see if you can get a ticket with Josh. Who cares if you don't know anyone in Vermont. I hear it's nice this time of year.

It would be horrible for this region to have to suffer again through another storm. Pray it doesn't happen.
