From a post:

Here are some answers, hope they can help. I am a Lt Col from Keesler; for all those looking for information on the base please get into www.keesler.af.mil; nobody sheltering on base was hurt but the base itself was hit very hard, nobody will leave Keesler until Thursday or Friday and they are not recommending ANYBODY currently in the status of evacuee to get there before Friday at least; there is a number for AFP: 800-435-9941 for updated daily info

Thanks Colonel.

If you are AD military, have evacuated from one of the bases, and have not been able to access your bank account, go to your nearest military branch's family support center or finance dept. and you may be able to get a cash advance on your per diem and get your pay from Sept. 1 cash. I did this and received both, then deposited the cash in a new bank account I opened here in Shreveport. Hope this helps somebody! God bless you.

Plantation Apts standing! Go to this website:
http://ngs.woc.noaa.gov/katrina/
Click on Gulfport, download the aerial photos, then look at photos #24332203 and 08. The complex looks OK relatively speaking, with only a few buildings w/roof damage. By God's grace!!!

Re KFCU:

NCUA, the agency that insures KFCU and other credit unions, has given great advice. Call 800 827-6282 x3049 for Mississippi info, or go to their webpage for other extension #s. Plan to leave a message, but they'll get back to you soon.

The bank's info is backed up in AZ, and you should be able to use an ATM or draft money from funds already in your account to pay bills that accept that electronic payment with routing and account numbers. Many credit unions, especially state or federally-affiliated may also cash a check for no fee with the appropriate info, depending on the source of the check. There are ways to do with with no fees through NCUA credit unions.

Direct deposits scheduled for the first of the month are likely to go through Saturday, though that's just an estimate. The website is no longer down but is limited; should improve.

I believe temporary offices of many local banks have been/are being set up in the G'port/Biloxi area and should be expanding.

I was at Keesler in 1995 while going to Gulfport naval school. For six months I even had a part-time job at Mickey D's on Pass road and Magic casino on the beach front. I pray that things go well its a great place to visit all year around. I will be there soon with my National Guard Unit for support.
