2:52 p.m. CDT
The dispatch is telling everyone to watch out. Mississippi Power is not generating power right now, but high levels of electricity are resident in the line in something called "backfeed."
There are also reports of gas leaks near downed power lines. Someone just reported in yelling about needing to sift through the debris and there have been several calls of "signal 25,"meaning dead bodies. Someone just called asking if a rescue team was needed.
It sounds pretty bad out there.
If you are reading this outside of the coastal counties of Mississippi and are considering coming back, just hold on. They probably won't let you through.
Mark, the Reuters photog who camped out last night, just came back from a scouting mission.
He said there is no city of Gulfport anymore.

Hey guys. I'm up here in Montgomery, AL and I saw your blog fatured on MSNBC. Thank you so much for keeping it updated on what's going on. We have no communication with our friends and loved ones down on the coast. The little bit we know came from early in the morning before the worst of the storm came through. We have heard numerous reports of damage at Memorial Hospital, which is where my dad is working as a RN there. We are extremely worried about him because of the things we have heard were bad, but we don't know if they are true. We can't get in touch with anyone. Not even the sheriff's department just to see if all of the employees at MHG are safe. If you know anything at all, will you please let me know. Again, thanks for keeping us informed.
Melissa

Is the comment about Gulfport an exaggeration or is this Reuters photog telling like it is?

I have friends and family in Gulfport, Biloxi and Ocean Springs and I am really hoping the damage isn't as bad as Camille. I am desperate to see photos of the damage anywhere but all the photos I can find are from NOLA and the dang Superdome. When are the photos going to come in from Biloxi and Gulfport? Is it too bad for the photogs to even get around?

This seems off topic but here goes...Does anyone know what happened to Harvey Jackson? He was interviewed after he was rescued, he had lost his wife and was very upset. CNN ran his interview many times. I am so worried about this man. I began to cry when I saw him describe having to let go of his wifes hand. I'm not sure what town he was in, I just know that he stands out in my mind as an example of the dire straits of the situation. Please if anyone has heard anything about this man...did they find his wife, are he and his children/grandchildren safe, anything...please post. I plan to write CNN in the morning about this also. I wish I could help. Harvey Jackson is one of many. Prayers please to whatever diety, hopes, thoughts are so needed now. Any news is appreciated. By the way, good job guys-stay safe. MB in NC
